Every California employee needs the SB 294 Know Your Rights notice by February 1 — and every new hire, at hire.
SB 294 also requires offering each employee an emergency contact and a separate yes/no choice: “If I'm arrested or detained at work, notify this person?” (Lab. Code §§1553, 1555). NoticeStamp sends the notice in the right language, records the election, and keeps 3 years of proof.

A contact is not consent to call them
SB 294 asks for a separate yes/no election (§1555). NoticeStamp asks it and keeps the proof.

What California SB 294 asks of employers
The Workplace Know Your Rights Act (Labor Code §§1550–1559) took effect January 1, 2026. The chaptered text is on leginfo.legislature.ca.gov.
Annual and new-hire notice
A stand-alone written notice to each current employee by February 1 every year, to each new hire, and annually to the authorized representative if there is one (§1553).
Delivered by the employer's normal channel if it can reasonably be expected to arrive within one business day.
The right language
The language you normally use with the employee, if the Labor Commissioner publishes the template in it; otherwise English (§1553(c)).
DIR publishes 11: English, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional), Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic, Urdu.
Emergency contact and election
Employees get the opportunity to name an emergency contact and choose whether that person is notified of an arrest or detention at work (§1555(b)).
Three years of records
Keep records of compliance, “including the date that each written notice is provided or sent,” for 3 years (§1553(e)).
Penalties
- Up to “five hundred dollars ($500) per employee for each violation” (§1558(d)).
- For §1555: up to “five hundred dollars ($500) per employee for each day the violation occurs, up to a maximum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) per employee.”
- Collected as a statutory penalty or a civil penalty, not both.

FAQ
Does this guarantee compliance?
No. We keep records of what happened, not a guarantee of compliance. You supply the employee data and own the compliance duty.
Is there a free trial?
No. Instead, early access takes 20% off your first payment (first month, or first year on yearly) when you sign up by November 30, 2026 at 11:59 PM PT. Regular prices after that. The DIY templates stay free.
Is the notice template free?
Yes. The Labor Commissioner publishes it free. You pay for delivery, tracking, the election vault and proof.
Who can see emergency contacts?
Contacts are encrypted per company. Revealing one requires an HR role and is written to the audit log.
Do you have SOC 2?
No. We don’t display badges we haven’t earned. Our security practices and DPA are published.
Can I try it without paying?
Yes, partly. The official templates and the 30-second compliance check are free with no sign-up. Sending notices through NoticeStamp requires a paid plan.
